A Review of the Parents in Action Group

This year, Parents in Action was in its third cohort. The project was the outcome of collaboration between the Magog Adult Education Centre and the Memphremagog Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi.

Thus, nine parents were able to benefit from the group’s activities, as well as 15 children. The project, which lasts 24 weeks, ran from November to May.

As in previous years, participants could attend various conferences by community partners, such as the CIUSSE de l’Estrie-CHUS, Équijustice, the Women’s Centre, the RAME (Réseau d’appui aux families monoparentales et recomposées de l’Estrie), the ACEF (Association cooperative d’économie familiale) and the Centre l’Élan, to name just a few.

In addition, a project was undertaken with the Women’s Centre. Its goal was to give women of all generations an opportunity to share their experience as women. It was an emotional project that allowed each woman to talk about her own journey. Following discussions, the women’s stories were made into a book that was given to the Women’s Centre to serve as inspiration to others.
Parents in Action activities are based on the interests of participants, which is why there’s such a variety of subjects.

After taking part in various activities, parents reported that the group gave them a chance to get out of the house, meet new people, become motivated to take action and learn about a host of issues.

Parents in Action will resume next year with an added feature: education. As a result, those who register will be invited to continue their education in parallel with the group’s activities. Parents will be able to follow a path that’s adapted to their reality, access a drop-in daycare service during their courses, and attend parenting support workshops.

Registrations will begin in the fall, so stay tuned!
