Memphré en Mouvement works in concertation with the Table Jeunesse Socio-Économique (TJSEM)

Since the consultations in May and June between the Memphré en Mouvement (MEM) partners and those from the TJSEM, work has been going well. The Youth Concertation Committee was reactivated with new members. Its mandate is to collect the partners’ recommendations and to put in place a work plan that will guide them not only as they coordinate with each other, but as they plan a 0-35 year continuum.
The TJSEM Committee is made up of:
  • Josée Boily, Alexander Leitner and Patrick Martineau, Board members
  • Marie-Denise Morency, Coordinator.
As for the MEM Committee, it includes:
  • Hélène Desrosiers, Marie-Claude Farrell and Nathalie Bélanger, Members of the Coordinating Committee
  • Isabelle Mercieca, Coordinator
In addition, the committee receives support from Thomas Dandurand, Community Organizer.
The first step was to ensure we remained aligned on our goals and the needs of the partners while respecting each of the parties involved in the process. This exercise, which was carried out with all the members of the TJSEM Board and the MEM Coordinating Committee, allowed us to define our work intentions:

Youth Concertation Committee Intentions - 2018-2019
Build an effective, simple and harmonious way of working together for the benefit of 0-35 year olds
Develop fruitful collaborations
Have fun
Respect our cultural differences
Value our respective expertise
Maintain an acceptable pace for everyone
Remain focused on the needs of the children and youth
Develop a common vision of the continuum
Take into account the limitations of remote territories
Find a balance

« No one frees another, and no one can become free on one’s own; men [and women] free themselves throughmediated joint action toward world transformation. » Paulo Freire

Subsequently, the committee elaborated a strategy that will allow members of both tables to get to know one another and to start thinking about which actions should be taken in keeping with a 0-35 year continuum. Hence, each of the two tables will invite the members of the other table to their next meetings, which will coincide with the presentation of results from several recent surveys.
Memphré en Mouvement will therefore welcome members of the TJSEM when it holds its assembly on April 1st. That’s when every stakeholder will be able to hear the results, for the Memphrémagog MRC, of the Québec Survey of Child Development in Kindergarten, and to take part in the reflection workshop that follows.
As for the TJSEM, it will receive MEM members when it holds its large gathering on June 12th. On that occasion, we’ll have the opportunity to analyse and discuss the results of the Québec Health Survey of High School Students.
These two occasions will «set the table» for a more comprehensive reflection on issues facing children and youth ages 0 to 35 in our community, and will help us identify the priorities on which we want to work collectively. So there will be a meeting between all the partners of both groups in October to collectively determine the priority goals for 0-35 year olds in our MRC.
Moreover, the Youth Concertation Committee decided to approach the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation to explore the possibility of receiving support. An initial letter of intent will be written soon so we can begin discussions with them.
The process is moving forward and, as early as this spring, everyone will be able to take part in an effort to better meet the needs of children and youth between the ages of 0-35 in our territory.
